Mantle with heart shaped faces 1935.32.0122a
The motif consists of a heart-shaped face, around which are some 8 trophy heads (?) with hair hanging free. The motif repeats in 4 different colour combinations along the border. Inside the wide border is a narrow border with the same figures, but turned in towards the main border and stitched to follow the direction of these figures.
MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUE
Ground weave: warp and weft in yellow cotton. Embroidery: camelid fibre in the following shades: yellow, red, dark blue, dark green, white and black. Technique: the mantle is made up of two cloths sewn together down the middle. A wide embroidered border runs down the long sides and slightly into the short sides. Embroidery in broad line style. Ground shade: the black has almost completely metallized and corroded away.
